When I was a kid.
When I was a kid, a young child and well into my teenage years, I was pretty much a loner. I had friends. I wasn’t an outcast or any such thing and I did have a brother and a sister to hang out with. I liked to read and most of the people that I knew and hung around didn’t. I read stuff like Tarzan, Sherlock Holmes, comic books and those old books about sports heroes. Also, stuff like The Outsiders were on my list. I would lose myself in the stories and since my mom was a bit overprotective we didn’t really get to go outside and mingle with the neighborhood kids. But I was happy with my books and my literary heroes. I dreamed of being them. I’ve always been a bit of a hero worshiper.
The reason I bring this up is that there are times when I wish I was that kid again. No worries to speak of. Just reading about his heroes and knowing that they kept the world and him safe.
